No, he's not a Samoyed...not even a little bit. But he was in a very bad place and needed help. Red Cloud was brought to our attention by several Houston area rescue groups; with the social media thread at that time having already 800 comments. He was living on the streets of Cleveland, Texas....
“Topaz“ for his stunning “jewel” blue eyes; “Khanti” for the Siberian town of an SRT volunteer. Gotcha date – 4.29.22 D.O.B – 4.15.19 Weight – 60# Breed – 65% Siberian Husky, 19% Alaskan Malamute, 12% American Eskimo, 4% German Shepard. Neutered male. Typical high-energy Husky, (a tired Husky is a GOOD Husky). Requires a family with no children under 16. Topaz is selective of his canine friends, and would prefer no small dogs (under 30 pounds). Dog savvy family a must. Topaz would thrive in an open, quiet environment, away from the hustle and bustle of the "Big City." Needs daily walks, frequent human interaction, general playtime. Cannot be left alone, ignored, or deprived of attention
Topaz was picked up as a stray on 3.27.22 by the League City Shelter in League City. Texas, (SE Houston). Samoyed Rescue of Texas attempted to Tag him and bring him to Dallas on 3.30.22, but the shelter block the tag and unsuccessfully placed him twice. He was then surrendered to SRT and the second adopter brought him to Dallas. During SRT’s required Shelter Evaluation, an experienced Trainer made this observation about Topaz: Friendly, seeks attention. Topaz is just too much for owners' 12 y/o Sammy. A very nice dog, He would make a great pet for someone who is dog savvy, and familiar with the breed. I don’t think he’s a first-time dog owner dog.
Topaz is still learning his social skills. He is nearing the end of the 2nd month of a 3-month Board & Train with Take the Lead Dog Training. He is a high-energy boy that needs lots of walks, attention, and fulfilling activities, and playtime. Older teenagers or adults that want to play and go on walks is a huge PLUS. He’d be an awesome companion for an outdoorsy type, or someone who enjoys walks. At only 3 years old…..there A LOT OF PLAY left in this one!!!! He is currently in boarding in East Dallas, and would REALLY love a foster home or adopter!
Sadly, Samoyeds are in need of rescue every day. SRT volunteers continually evaluate and rehab to help get these sweet babies ready for their new homes.
